so over the weekend i continued my downward spiral of mac-ifying myself by backing up my music library and getting all the goods onto the as yet unnamed imac. 3300 songs. a few videos. some admittedly nerdy podcasts (astronomy anyone?). i even got my ipod all switched over to his home team. despite my digital music revolution i still get down old school and listen to the radio. my rig is XM equipped but i choose the good old-fashioned free variety and abscond from commercials like a real man by changing the channel. also on a side note i like to keep things at a brisk 60 degrees in the peso-mobile. so without further adieu here’s my six radio presets that stand the test of time:
Preset 1: 95.5 KLOS. this is my tried and true standby. Mark and Brian are legends if i’m actually up early enough. either way, this is my best bet for a good run of music that i’m actually going to recognize or like.
Preset 2: STAR 98.7. this is my guilty pleasure station and i’m oh-so-quick to ditch when they spin crap. they keep a decent supply of 8-10 year old stuff that takes me back to my college years, and as a music teacher i have to stay moderately familiar with the rock-ish pop scene. call it nostalgia meets research.
Preset 3: 88.1 KKJZ. the reception is spotty but this is my favorite jazz station. on evenings and weekends they break out some of the greasiest blues around.
Preset 4: 105.1 KMZT. i’ll admit anything much after chopin tends to bore me but i’m still fairly versed in “classical” music and this station keeps me moving. don’t forget your roots childrens.
Preset 5: 93.1 JACK-FM. this is truly the slot machine of all radio stations. old jack can go from the doors to whitney houston to garth brooks to absolute butt rock without breaking a sweat and they don’t take requests. this station also holds the record for “most songs and bands that i’ve never even heard of...”
Preset 6: 106.7 KROQ. while there’s a few bands on this station’s hotlist that tickle my fancy, i mostly keep it around for heavy rock cravings and the aforementioned quest to keep current with the young folk music.
what’s your 6?
